Runner beans
Phaseolus coccineusAlso known as Scarlet Runner or Multiflora bean. This specie originated from the mountains of Central America. Most varieties have red flowers and multicolored seeds and are often grown as ornamental plants. The green pods however are edible before they become fibrous and the seeds can be used fresh or as dried beans. The vine can climb up to two meters or more.
Specific white flowering and white seeded varieties that have been developed are also being used in the processing industry. All these varieties need a minimum of 12 hours day length to set.
Holland-Select is one of the few seed companies that is still running an important maintenance and breeding program. New stringless lines have been introduced and recently we have introduced a light independent variety.
